Visit Barcelona's Camp Nou
Visiting Barcelona's Camp Nou is one of those experiences that sports fans, and especially Barça supporters, should not miss while in the city. As well as being the home of FC Barcelona, Camp Nou has become a symbol of the city and one of the world's greatest football stadiums.
The stadium is currently undergoing a complete redevelopment, which is expected to continue until the end of 2027. However, visitors can still enjoy a range of tours and explore the museum to discover the stadium's facilities, its history and the achievements of Barça, one of the world's most renowned football clubs.
The History of FC Barcelona's Stadium
Spotify Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona's home stadium since 24 September 1957, the date of its official inauguration. It soon became popularly known as Camp Nou, as it replaced the club's former stadium located in the Les Corts district.
The old ground had become too small, even after several expansions that increased its capacity to 48,000 spectators, due to the rapid growth of Barça's fanbase during the 1940s and 1950s. Following a vote by club members, the name Camp Nou was officially adopted in 2001.
Standing 49 metres high and covering an area of 58,760 square metres, the stadium has a capacity of 99,354 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Europe and one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world.
When will the Camp Nou redevelopment be completed?
The stadium is currently undergoing a phased redevelopment as part of its complete transformation. The full renovation of Spotify Camp Nou is scheduled for completion in December 2027, when the stadium will reach its new maximum capacity of 105,000 spectators.
Several important milestones are planned before then:
- By the end of 2026, construction of the third tier seating and the new VIP hospitality areas will be completed.
- By April 2027, all seating areas will be fully completed and operational.
- From summer until December 2027, the new roof will be installed and completed, providing full cover for every spectator.
