America’s Cup Barcelona

In addition to being the most important competition of its kind, the America's Cup is considered to be the oldest sporting event in the world, with origins dating back to before the Olympic Games.

Every four years, the competition brings together the world's best sailing yachts to compete in an unrivalled test of speed and endurance. The preparation involves several months in which the participating teams must build their bases and perfect their sailing techniques on the spot.

Barcelona, home of the 37th America's Cup

As winners of the last America's Cup, New Zealand's Emirates Team New Zealand chose Barcelona as the place to defend its title in 2024. In addition to its extensive experience in hosting high-level sporting events, the city was selected for the quality of its port infrastructures, variety of competition venues and its cultural and leisure offer.

The 2024 Barcelona America's Cup will also be the first time that a Women's America's Cup regatta will take place, in addition to the Youth America's Cup.

Dates of the America's Cup Barcelona 2024

The 37th America's Cup will kick off on 22 August 2024 in Barcelona, although the teams will settle in the city and start training in the summer of 2023.

The competition will continue through September with the Challenger Selection Series, which will see the club selected to compete against New Zealand for the title, while the women's regatta, the youth regatta and the America's Cup final will take place in October.

The competition will run until October 2024 with a minimum of seven races and a maximum of thirteen.

In addition to the main event, there will be several preliminary competitions between 2023 and 2024. The first preliminary regatta will be in the town of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) from 14 to 17 September 2023.

Where will the America's Cup be held in Barcelona?

The America's Cup will be held in the Port of Barcelona, with different areas where the teams will be based for months. There will be a total of six bases spread throughout the Port, with the intention of opening up the event to the public, where each team’s boats will be assembled.

The competition will be free to watch from the Barcelona beaches, between the Port Vell and the W Hotel. A Village area will be set up in this area with broadcasting screens to watch the races in more detail.
